Alex's 1st Birthday Party

It was small and intimate but hopefully everyone had as much fun as Alex did! She really enjoyed being the center of attention, can't you tell? We are definitely thankful for this Hawaiian winter weather that enabled us to have this little shindig. We are also grateful for our good friends and family who were able to make it special. Thanks everyone!

Alex's 1st Birthday

My sweet baby girl is no longer a baby. She has officially turned 1 and is now a "toddler."

On her 1st birthday we celebrated by opening some presents in the morning, reading some books, going for a walk, taking a nap, making her birthday cake, reading some more books, and trying out some finger painting. When Dad got home from work we had dinner and then we celebrated by singing 'Happy Birthday to Alex' and letting her taste some sugar for the first time. As you can see she loved it!

She spent most of the day talking. I believe she was telling me about her journey she took one year ago, but who can really understand baby jabber?!? She seemed genuinely happy all day as if she knew it was her day. She is so smart. Throughout the day I would find myself starring at her. Admiring her. She has grown so fast and so much.

Alex's Christmas Wishlist

1. A pull toy, now that she is walking she needs something to pull behind her.   2. A bike seat, so we can ride to the store instead of walk.   3. If she is gonna be riding on a bike, she needs a helmet!    4. Books! Wooden books to be exact, so she can gnaw and tug and it wont break apart.   5. A phone of her own so she will stop stealing mine.   6. Some puzzle like shape toys.

My Inspiration

The inspiration from this post came from my friend Mia. Mia and I met at my work, we started talking about jewelry making and I just felt so comfortable around her. She is the sweetest most down-to-earth girl you will ever meet. I have been working with Mia as her assistant for her jewelry line Indi Ocean for the past few months.

Mia recently got in a surfing accident while on a get-away to Kauai. While surfing some shore break her board hit her in the eye, since the damage done to her eye was so severe, this past week her eye was removed. Why is she my inspiration? Well, I don't think I have ever met a more positive person in my life. This bright smile has shown through during all the hardships she has been dealing with these past few weeks. She has not once been slightly negative about the fact she lost her eye but thankful for everything she still has. Instead of thinking about what could of or should have happened she has already moved on and is looking to her future to see what next adventure she will find.  I am just so inspired by her because I know if I were in her situation I would be so depressed and negative, but Mia, Mia is nothing but sunshine!

It was a pleasure to be able to capture a few images of her with the board that took her eye, and seriously isnt she beautiful? With out a doubt the most beautiful cyclops I have ever seen ; )

Lunch with Alex

Menu today: turkey, peas, zucchini, beans, tortellinis and some water to drink

Lunch convo: "Nummnumnumnumm." Then some clapping. A few giggles. Some more clapping, and then, oh no! The dogs are barking. And no Alex, they are not coming in to eat the rest of your lunch.
